DALLAS - September 26, 2005 - Broadlane, the group procurement
services company for healthcare, has renewed its contract with GERMFREE for a second year. The agreement makes GERMFREE the
exclusive provider to Broadlane customers of barrier isolation chambers
for use in the hospital pharmacy.
Through its innovative pre-committed group buy program, Broadlane
brings together hospital clinicians interested in voluntarily committing
purchases of a specific diagnostic modality to a winning vendor
with the most advanced technology, before bidding even begins. This
gives suppliers the knowledge that they could receive significant
market share in offering competitive bids. For participating hospitals,
it assures best technology with the most favorable terms, conditions
and pricing for key capital equipment products and guarantees the
combined buying power of all participants.
Broadlane invited the five major North American manufacturers of
barrier isolators to its facility in Dallas to give presentations
to directors of pharmacy and technical advisers of participating
hospitals. The committee conducted a live, in-person comprehensive
technology evaluation on all vendors. GERMFREE emerged with the
best combination of technology and total cost of ownership and was
awarded the contract to become the exclusive provider of barrier
isolators to Broadlane’s customers.
“Broadlane is committed to enhancing its contracting portfolio
to address the rapid developments in the sterile compounding regulatory
environment,” said Camber Hayman, director of pharmacy contracting
for Broadlane. “Broadlane ensures that its customers have
access to key products and services that not only will add to the
safety of their employees and patients, but will assist in their
compliance with the new standards.”
Cherie Berdovich, director of sales and marketing of GERMFREE said,
“Recent shifts in pharmacy regulation, such as USP <797>
as well as the imminent threat of future changes, have placed emphasis
on patient and operator safety during sterile preparations and the
compounding of hazardous drugs. Long the status quo in European
pharmacies, barrier isolation technology is emerging in the United
States as a safe and cost-efficient alternative to the use of laminar
flow hoods inside a clean room. GERMFREE and its customers are committed
to maintaining the safest possible hospital environments while always
staying ahead of the latest regulatory updates.”
